The Simmy Show

Presented through shadow puppetry, Crow Kid is a heart-warming tale for children about resilience, connection and the healing power of friendship.

Crow Kid has moved to Nanna’s farm after a recent loss.  It’s summer holidays but it sure doesn’t feel like a normal summer – they’re lonely and super miserable! To ease their misery, they start to feed the crows who visit Nanna’s yard, beginning a beautiful friendship between child and bird.

A powerful story about resilience, connection and the healing power of friendship, Crow Kid is presented through shadow puppetry ‘unplugged’. Projected onto a back screen with all the mechanicians revealed, audience members get to see how the effects and shadows are created, inspiring them to create their own stories in shadows.

Crow Kid is created and performed by the artistic directors of award-winning theatre company Lemony S Puppet Theatre. Jacob Williams, one of Australia’s premier puppeteers is known for his work as Puppet Master for Bluey’s Big Play and worked as Head Puppeteer for King Kong-Live on Broadway. Sarah Kriegler is an award-winning director, puppeteer & writer who recently adapted and directed Charlie and the War Against the Grannies for the Sydney Opera House.

Key themes:

1. Connecting through animals

2. Building new friendship

3. Overcoming isolation through human connection

About Lemony S Puppet Theatre

Lemony S Puppet Theatre is an award-winning independent company making contemporary puppet theatre for adult and family audiences. Our work explores the junctures between live performer, object and puppet, investigating the human attachment to objects and figurines and how this attachment can enhance a theatrical performance. We make work that illuminates the corners of the world where others forget to look. Using puppetry to enhance our story-telling, our works are aesthetically beautiful, funny, soul-shifting and unique.

Our repertoire includes the critically acclaimed and Green Room awarded CAPTIVES OF THE CITY, TAKING THE WATERS, PICASSO AND HIS DOG, APPLES AND LADDERS, THE LICHTENSTEIN NURSING HOME MASSACRE, ONE NIGHT THE DOG, JESUS CRISIS, THE CAUTIONARY TALE OF BARRY VON PEABODY AND THE SCARLET ST THEATRE and award winning FOXY’S HOUSE OF HORRORS. Our latest work for children PICASSO AND HIS DOG was seen on over 25 national and festival stages throughout 2019, presented by Regional Arts Victoria. Our new work for families ADA, ASMIN AND THE ANALYTICAL ENGINE will be seen across Australia in 2023.
