HISTORY

CRESWICK THEATRE COMPANY

Creswick Theatre Company was founded in 1981 as Creswick Amateur Theatre Group (or CAT).

The objective of the company, as recorded in the inaugural minutes, was, ‘To foster, cultivate and stimulate an appreciation of the performing arts in Creswick for the benefit of the community’.

In double quick time the Theatre had their first production up and running at the Creswick Town Hall: Oliver with Sweet Nellie’s Dilemma later in the same year.

In the late 1990s we became an incorporated body, changed our name to the Creswick Theatre Company Incorporated (CTC) and established our current Constitution and Committee of Management.
In 1993, under the Presidency of Marg Edgar, the Company found a home in the old Creswick Courthouse in Raglan Street.
We produced our 100th show in 2018.

CRESWICK COURTHOUSE

HOME TO THE CRESWICK THEATRE COMPANY

CRESWICK COURTHOUSE:
Built in 1859, the beautiful Creswick Courthouse building had been left empty after the Victorian Police moved out in the late 1970s.

Tales are still told of the hours spent scrubbing pigeon droppings from every surface.

The building is now owned by the Victorian Government Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and is managed by the Company.
